Motorcycle news 2018: The EICMA Europeans!

Ducati panigale v4 2018

EICMA 2017 is above all a European exhibition, aimed at the public of the old continent. If the Japanese manufacturers have understood this well by reserving for this occasion announcements about local bestsellers (like the MT-07 or the Tracer 900), it is above all the territory of European brands, which present their new models on this occasion, sometimes after several months (or years!) of teasing.
As in the first part, the list presented here is not exhaustive and also includes Harley Davidson and Royal Enfield 😉

Ducati, the long-awaited Panigale V4

Ducati panigale v4 2018

Ducati panigale v4 s 2018

She was one of the stars expected for this 2017 show, the Panigale V4 has finally been revealed in its final version.
It is not only a new superbike replacing the 1299, the Panigale V4 is, as its name suggests, equipped with a V4 engine, a real revolution for the Bologna brand used to the L-Twin (upgraded left on the exclusive Desmocedici D16RR 10 years ago).
This machine is a real monster of power with 214 horsepower for a weight of only 174kg (in S version). Of course, on-board electronic assistance is at the top of what exists in the motorcycling world at the moment.
For those who do not find this sufficient, an over-equipped “special” version is announced. limited to 1500 examples, it will develop no less than 226 horsepower.

Ducati Scrambler 1100 2018

Ducati Scrambler 1100 2018

Ducati continues to ride the neo-retro wave of the Scrambler, unveiling its Scrambler 1100.
As its name does not indicate, this machine is equipped with a 1079cc L-twin, the same one that fitted the Monster 1100 Evo in its time. Air-oil cooling is retained in order to avoid breaking the style of the motorcycle with liquid cooling, but the block loses power (86 horsepower) in order to comply with the Euro4 standard.

Ducati Multistrada 1260 2018

Ducati Multistrada 1260 2018

On the evolution side, let us point out the appearance of the Panigale 959 Corsica, better equipped and featuring a “tri-color” paint dear to the brand for its exceptional machines, and the Multistrada 1260.
The latter replaces the Multistrada 1200 in the catalog and adopts an engine close to that of the X-Diavel, with more torque at low revs and which retains the DVT variable distribution.

Triumph, trail and more trail

No new model strictly speaking for the English, but very big developments for the brand's trails.

Triumph tiger 800 xrx 2018

Triumph tiger 800 xrx 2018

Starting with the Tiger 800, 800 XC and XCA. These adopt new LED lighting and new controls (backlit for the XRT and XCA versions). The dashboard changes to a 5-inch color TFT screen similar to that of the Street Triple 765RS.
Front braking is now entrusted to Brembo , while the engine sees its power unchanged but the mapping should be revised in order to provide better response to the handle and better control at low revs. The silencer is replaced by a lighter element.
In terms of ergonomics, the handlebars are moved back 10mm and should allow a more upright position. We also note the presence of a new screen adjustable to 5 positions with one hand.

Triumph tiger 800 xca 2018

Triumph tiger 800 xca 2018

There Tiger 800 will not have Brembo braking, nor LED lighting, nor the 5″ TFT screen and the new controls. This remains equipped with the on-board equipment of the 2015 model and is intended to be an entry-level model at a more affordable price.

Triumph tiger 1200 xr 2018

Triumph tiger 1200 xr 2018

The big Sisters Tiger 1200 and 1200 XR are not to be outdone: a weight loss of around 10kg is announced while gaining 2 horses (141 horses). The electronics have also been revised in order to obtain more responsiveness and adopt a 6-axis inertial unit, allowing the intervention of the assistance to be adapted according to the angle and attitude of the motorcycle.
As on the 800cc variants, we find the new backlit controls and the 5-inch TFT dashboard. The lighting switches to full LED and adopts one of the adaptive directional lights, which “follow” turns.

Trimph tiger 1200 xc 2018

Trimph tiger 1200 xc 2018

The big trail also adopts a keyless starting system and the XC version has a new “Off-road Pro” mode which deactivates certain driving assistance.
To mark the occasion, new colors will be available and the fairing sides have been redesigned.

BMW, the mid-size GS

10 years after the launch of the F700GS and F800GS and despite their passage to the Euro4 standard last year, BMW presented the two machines which will succeed them in 2018: the BMW F750GS and F850GS.

BMW F850GS 2018

BMW F850GS 2018

These are completely new machines: The trellis frame is abandoned and replaced by a steel monocoque element (the rear loop remains tubular) and the engine of both machines increases to 853cc.
That of the F750GS develops 77 horsepower, while that of the F850GS increases to 95 horsepower and two engine modes are available. The weight increases by 12kg on both machines (F750GS: 224kg – F850GS: 229kg). ABS and ASC stability control are standard.

As usual with the Bavarian manufacturer, a very large catalog of options is available, including ESA dynamic suspensions, LED lights, shifter, keyless start, on-board computer and its 5″ TFT screen, the emergency call...

The F850GS will also be available in a Rallye version with specific decor and the F750GS in an “Exclusive” version.

KTM, a new 790 cc engine

KTM Duke 790 2018

KTM Duke 790 2018

Another star of the show, the KTM Duke 790. With a style modeled on that of the impressive SuperDuke 1290, the prototype presented last year made noise. The manufacturer was not wrong in announcing a more affordable machine both in terms of riding and financially, many bikers were completely excited by this concept and the photos of the prototype.
It is therefore only a year later that KTM presents us the definitive version of its mini superduke, with the MT-09 and other Z900 in its sights.
The Duke 790 has some great arguments: Powered by a new 799 cm³ LC8c parallel twin and 4 driving modes including one that is fully configurable, KTM announces a power of 105 horsepower for a weight of only 169 kg.
The suspension is designed by WP (WP Suspensions belongs to the KTM group) and comes standard with traction control (MTC), engine slip control (MSR), a shifter and “launch control” allowing great starts. Top-of-the-range equipment for a machine in this segment.
The line is sharp, and ultimately very close to that of the prototype presented last year except perhaps concerning the exhaust, standards require.
It should also be noted that KTM will also offer a version limited to 95 horsepower of the Duke 790, in order to make it adjustable to 47.5 horsepower for A2 permit holders.

Prototype of the KTM 790 Adventure

KTM is not losing ground and has already presented its new prototype sharing a common base with the Duke 790: the 790 Adventure R, an enduro machine using the new LC8c block and which already has many fans.

Husqvarna: The Vitpilen, finally!

Presented 3 years ago at EICMA 2014, Husqvarna finally unveils the production version of the Vitpilen 701, which will be marketed in spring 2018.

Husqvarna 701 Vitpilen 2018

Husqvarna 701 Vitpilen 2018

This is a nice surprise as the final look is close to that of the prototype. The hyper design roadster is equipped with the single-cylinder that equips the KTM Duke 690 (Husqvarna has belonged to KTM since 2013) and develops 75 horsepower. We find Brembo for braking and WP-Suspension (the company belongs to the same group) for damping.
THE a2 clamping should be available.

THE Svartpilen 701, a high-tech scrambler whose prototype was presented simultaneously with that of the Vitpilen, should be available later in the year.
The Vitpilen and Svartpilen 401 should be available in the very first weeks of 2018.

Moto Guzzi : A new V7

Moto Guzzi v7 iii 2018

Moto Guzzi v7 iii 2018

At Moto-Guzzi, we announce the arrival of three additional versions of the V7 III, which are added to the three models already present in the catalog.
No major changes, the bike had already undergone significant modifications last year with its transition to the 3rd iteration celebrating the 50th anniversary of the V7.
The three new variants are: Rough, Milano and Carbon, each featuring a different style.
Same treatment for V9 Bobber and the V9 Roamer which will have their new colors for 2018.

Moto Guzzi V85 prototype

At the same time, Moto-Guzzi presented a new concept in the form of a trail. Named “ Concept V85“, this one is equipped with an 850cc transverse twin developing 80 horsepower which should serve as the basis for a new range of motorcycles from the transalpine manufacturer.

Royal Enfield, a 650 cc parallel twin

The Indian manufacturer has unveiled two major new products for 2018, both powered by an all-new 47-horsepower air-oil-cooled parallel twin, the 650 Twin.
Like what Triumph offers, the engine is set at 270° in order to recreate the behavior of a V-twin.

Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 2018

Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 2018

These are the Royal Enfields 650 Interceptor and Continental GT 650, which should be offered at less than €7,375.00 according to the manufacturer.
Neat machines, equipped with original Pirelli tires (a novelty for Royal Enfield, accustomed to more… exotic tires) and which are clearly aimed at the European and American markets. Royal Enfield is indeed seeking to develop in the medium displacement sector in these territories.

Harley-Davidson, a new Sport Glide

On the side of the Milwaukee manufacturer, Milan was the opportunity to present the new Sport glide softail 2018.

Latest addition to the softail range, freshly presented last August, the Sport Glide 107 has the advantage of having luggage and an easily removable fork head in order to “convert” the motorcycle into a cruiser in a few minutes.

The 107 engine cubes 1,745 cm³ and develops the power of 86 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque.
Cruise control, LED lights, keyless start and alarm are standard. Note that this engine can be restricted for owners of a a2.
